God’s intention for marriage is that a man and a woman commit themselves totally to each other for life. They become “one flesh,” as the Bible puts it.
The exclusivity of their relationship is God’s powerful image for his faithfulness to humans.
But today we are painfully aware of the prevalence of divorce, of marriages entered into lightly and soon dissolved, of marriage-like relationships that end in strife and conflict, of children who grow up with only one parent or who are shuffled from one parent to another. Almost the new normal.
What is necessary for a lasting, happy marriage? To ensure that husband and wife constantly grow closer, more caring, more”one”? How do husbands and wives show their love?
