Walt Mueller, founder and President of the Center for Parent Youth Understanding (CPYU), calls on all who are, in his words “navigating life with our kids during this Pride Month“ to pray this prayer “with all humility as we seek to follow the way and will of God as contained in the Bible.”
This prayer
. . . thanks God for his good gifts of sex, sexuality, and gender. He created them for his glory and our good.
. . . calls us to confess that in our minds and bodies we know that something has gone terribly wrong and that all of us struggle personally with sexual brokenness because of our culture and our selfish desires. Our sexual immorality offends God and harms ourselves.
. . . asks God to give us skills for discernment, rooted in biblical truth, and to help us to remember that the Rainbow is his sign of his covenant promises, his mercy, and his grace.
. . . asks God to help us to see that every human being bears God’s image and must be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity.
. . . asks God to help us to remember that his design for marriage is a covenantal, lifelong, monogamous, one flesh, heterosexual union between one man and one woman.
Walt reminds us that we all need to recognize that every human being lives with brokenness and misplaced desires related to sex and gender, but with God‘s help everyone can experience, again in his own words, “the fulness of our humanity by living out biblical faithfulness in all areas of life, including sex and gender.“
